In His judgement He shows Mercy

Some would not like what i will be writing here. They would say what an insensitve woman who gives comments in an untimely way, that it would be better if i keep these thoughts to myself. But i still hope you read on..

The strongest quake that shook the north coast of Japan recently has shaken the whole world as well, and the tsunami is sweeping away our sense of peace and security. A backward look at the recent months show that times, the climate and the land we live in are changing, literally moving. People who believe in the Bible are quick to remind of Christ's words that there will be wars and rumors of wars and earthquakes and famines in the last days. And Jesus even said these are just the beginning of birth pains. These are bound to come. Matthew 24 is clear on that, and so the disciples of Christ were told not to be alarmed.

Those who don't know the Bible, on the other hand, question the so-called loving God who allowed all these sorrowful things. And this is where my reflections come in...

I believe no one must question him for if He answers us we will just be like Job who'd say : "i have uttered what i did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which i didn't know." Instead, i encourage all of us to ponder:

if the Lord afflicted those in Japan and chile and new zealand, who are we to be spared at the moment? We are not more righteous than they are.

we frequently complain of the days these calamities come.. but how often do we thank him for the weeks and months and years that he withholds it? Instead of accusing him as unloving, shouldn't we praise him for his patience?

now this last one is my own.. God is merciful to the world when he commanded to shake this part of Japan.. why? if  that 8.9 magnitude quake happened somewhere else there would have been more casualties and loss. Japan is the most prepared country for such events. And economically, they can recover faster than their neighboring countries. It is not even correct to say the Lord will provide for their recovery, for he has actually provided and is providing for them even before this happened.

God is very very merciful. There is still his loving hand in all these. But this is not even the foremost way he showed his love to the world. The Bible says : "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

May we continue to pray for the afflicted and for ourselves in view of God's mercy and love through Christ. Our hope rests in Him.
